Troost-Ekong’s Admiration for Super Eagles Coach, Finidi

Expressing deep respect for the new head coach of the Super Eagles team, Finidi George, is William Troost-Ekong, the team’s defender.

A familiar figure in the team’s setup, Finidi previously served as an assistant under the former manager, Jose Peseiro.

With a remarkable career as a player, Finidi clinched the UEFA Champions League title with Ajax in 1995, a well-known Eredivisie powerhouse.

Furthermore, he was a part of the Super Eagles squad that secured the Africa Cup of Nations championship in Tunisia back in 1994.

Troost-Ekong attributes his admiration for Finidi to the coach’s footballing background and his humility, citing these as pivotal factors.

Quoting Troost-Ekong from Soccernet, “George Finidi is regarded as a legend in African and Nigerian football circles. Even in Greece where I currently play, mention of ex-Nigerian players always includes Finidi’s name. Growing up near Amsterdam in Holland, his legacy at Ajax was a significant influence on me. His achievements and contributions make him someone I greatly admire and relate to.”

Speaking further on Finidi’s character, Troost-Ekong added, “His humility surpasses his remarkable accomplishments. Everyone acknowledges his successful stint with Enyimba, particularly last year when he led the team to victory in the league. Witnessing him progress from interim to full-time head coach fills me with joy. He is truly a remarkable individual.”
