Tragic Incident in Imo: Four Police Officers and a POS Operator Fatally Shot by Unknown Gunmen


Following a crucial stakeholders’ meeting headed by Imo State Police Commissioner, Aboki Danjuma, a group of unidentified gunmen carried out a deadly attack resulting in the deaths of four police officers and a female POS operator.

Confirming the sad events, the Police Commissioner swiftly instructed the Command’s Tactical Units to coordinate with other law enforcement agencies in a relentless effort to apprehend the criminals responsible for the tragic incident.

The unfortunate attack took place on Monday along the Owerri-Onitsha Expressway, where the officers conducting a routine patrol at Irete were ambushed by the assailants.

A press statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, revealed that the four officers lost their lives during a shootout with the attackers.

Upon receiving the distressing news, the Commissioner of Police promptly proceeded to the scene to assess the situation firsthand. The deceased bodies were removed and placed in the morgue, while the injured victim was quickly taken to a nearby hospital for medical assistance.

In the statement, it was mentioned that the Police Commissioner expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident and pledged that every effort would be made to track down and bring the perpetrators to justice, emphasizing that the offenders had disrupted the peace.

“This tragic incident serves as a painful reminder of the daily risks and sacrifices that police officers willingly endure in their steadfast dedication to public safety,” remarked the CP.

Danjuma extended his condolences to the families of the deceased victims and offered prayers for the repose of their souls.
