Tragic Fire Incident in Kogi State: 75-Year-Old Woman and Two Others Perish

Reports have revealed that a 75-year-old woman, Mallama Meimunat Opaluwa Sani, and two others lost their lives in a suspected arson attack in Kogi State. The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday morning at her Oketekwe residence in Idah Local Government Area.

Tragically, Mallama Meimunat Opaluwa Sani’s first daughter, Hajarat Usman Sani, and her five-year-old granddaughter, Onechojo, also perished in the fire.

According to a family source, unidentified individuals arrived at the house and set it ablaze while the victims were inside. The granddaughter passed away immediately due to severe burns, and Mallama Meimunat Opaluwa Sani and her daughter were rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, Mallama later succumbed to her injuries, while her daughter continues to fight for her life.

Mallama Meimunat Opaluwa Sani held the title of Akwuma Attah Igala, bestowed upon her in 2023. The victims have been laid to rest according to Islamic rites.

When approached for comments, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, stated that the Police are yet to receive any information about the incident. He assured that the command will provide information once it is available.
