Tragedy Strikes: 3 Cross River University Students Lose Lives in Fatal Car Accident

Tragically, three students from Cross River State University lost their lives in a devastating car crash as they were journeying back home after a two-week closure of the institution aimed at preventing student participation in the planned hardship protest scheduled for August 1.

The students, who were passengers on a bus headed to Ogoja in the northern region of the state, met with the fatal accident on a fateful Tuesday afternoon.

Reports indicate that the tragic incident occurred near Ikom, situated in the central part of the state, along the Calabar–Ikom highway.

An eyewitness with the name Ndoma Akunobor, who was onboard the bus, recounted that the unfortunate students, hailing from the fields of Microbiology, Plants Science, and Biotechnology, lost their lives in the accident.

Until the time of this report, the identities of the deceased students remain unidentified.

Prior to the national protest set to kick off on August 1, the university management issued a directive for the closure of the institution for a duration of two weeks, starting from July 30 and spanning until August 12.
