Trader gets one-year jail term for receiving stolen water pump

A 32-year-old trader, Salim Sulaiman, has been sentenced to one year in jail by an Area Court in Jos for purchasing a stolen water pump.

After pleading guilty to the charge, Sulaiman was given the sentence by Judge Shawomi Bokkos.

Alternatively, he has the option of a N50,000 fine, in addition to being ordered to pay N10,000 as compensation to the complainant.

The case was reported on Aug. 14 at the “C” Division Police station by the complainant, Bashir Musa, as stated by the prosecutor, Inspector Ibrahim Gokwat.

Gokwat informed the court that the convict had purchased the stolen machine from individuals who had stolen it from the complainant’s house.

The offence committed by Sulaiman contravened the provisions of the Plateau Penal Code.
