Three Prison Inmates Granted Pardon by Ogun Chief Judge

Efforts to reduce overcrowding in correctional facilities in Ogun State saw the Chief Judge, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, extend amnesty to three prison inmates.

During a visit to the Ilaro Correctional Centre in Ilaro, Yewa South local government area, Justice Dipeolu highlighted the importance of easing congestion within the facility.

Speaking about the challenging conditions in correctional centers nationwide, she emphasized the need to prevent the loss of inmates due to overcrowding.

Addressing the prevalent issue of overcrowding, Justice Dipeolu expressed concern for individuals awaiting trial, stressing the need to improve their situation.

Pledging to tackle the root causes of congestion, she underscored the urgency for courts to expedite cases and promote a swift judicial process.

Unacceptable delays in the trial process were highlighted by Justice Dipeolu, noting that some inmates had been awaiting trial since 2018.

As a result of her prison visit and jail delivery exercise, Joseph Apan, Nureni Oladosu, and Babatunde Fagbayi were granted release from the facility.

The Controller of the Correctional Centre, Saliu Adepoju, commended the chief judge and her team for their commitment to upholding judicial principles.
