Threats by Obaseki as PDP sets up Campaign Council for Edo State Governorship Election

The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, issued a warning to members of the “Legacy Group,” a faction within the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, cautioning them against causing division within the party.

Obaseki made this statement during the inauguration of a 363-member Governorship Campaign Council in Benin City. He expressed confidence in the PDP governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, predicting an 80 percent victory at the polls.

The governor accused the Legacy Group of collaborating with the opposition by accepting money to disrupt the party in the state, labeling them disorganized and lacking leadership. He emphasized that the PDP holds the reins, with others following suit.

Pointing out the absence of the Legacy Group members at the event, Obaseki challenged them to prove their organizational abilities, stating that the faction’s actions were detrimental to the party’s unity and success. He threatened to take action against anyone attempting to undermine the party’s cohesion.

Obaseki highlighted the solidarity within the PDP in Edo State, emphasizing the internal strength of the party while dismissing attempts by external forces to sow discord. He urged the disloyal members to enjoy the money they had received elsewhere and abstain from disrupting the party’s goals.

Asserting that the PDP had assembled a dedicated campaign council, Obaseki vowed to secure victory with the grace of God. He condemned the main opposition party in the state, asserting that they would not allow external forces to weaken Edo State.

He commended the hard work and dedication of the campaign council members, expressing confidence in their ability to secure a significant portion of the votes. Obaseki reiterated his commitment to progress, focusing on the achievements and positive impact made by his administration.

The campaign council, comprising 363 members excluding the youth and women’s wings, was unveiled by the State Chairman of the PDP, Tony Aziegbemi. He urged council members to engage with the communities across the state and promote the PDP’s candidate vigorously.

The Director-General of the campaign council, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the party and pledged to lead them to victory in the upcoming polls. Likewise, the PDP governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, expressed appreciation for the support and vowed to build upon the foundations laid by Obaseki for the betterment of the state.
