The Nigerian Navy’s Concern Over the Economic Impact of Illegal Oil Operations

Expressing dismay, the Nigerian Navy has highlighted the significant economic losses resulting from illegal oil bunkering and the vandalism of oil pipelines in the riverine communities of Nigeria.

During a recent visit to sites in the Okolomade Community of Abua Odual Local Government Area of Rivers, Commodore Nanmar Lakan, the Commander of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) SOROH, emphasized the severity of the issue.

He stressed the need to halt crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism due to their adverse effects on the country’s economy.

Addressing the situation, he appealed to those involved in these illicit activities to seek alternative means of livelihood.

Emphasizing the detrimental effects of stolen crude oil, he assured the public that his personnel were committed to putting an end to these illegal practices.

During their operations, naval officials uncovered a significant illegal site in the Okolomade community featuring three tanks utilized for storing illegally refined AGO (diesel).

The confiscated products will be handed over to relevant authorities for further investigation to combat illegal activities in Nigeria.

Operating under the directives of the Chief of Naval Staff and Operation Delta Safe, NNS SOROH continues to conduct patrols within its designated operational area.

Reassuring Nigerians, he pledged to eradicate these illegal activities promptly.
