The Nigerian Government Initiates 15-Day Emergency Fuel Supply Amid Fuel Scarcity

Addressing the ongoing challenge of fuel scarcity, the Federal Government of Nigeria has implemented a 15-day emergency fuel supply initiative to alleviate the situation affecting various areas significantly.

The primary goal is to facilitate the smooth circulation of fuel throughout the entire country.

Additionally, the government revealed that ships transporting Premium Motor Spirit would continue to dock at the coast to unload petrol at various depots for subsequent distribution to different petrol stations.

In a recent statement, the Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria confirmed that its members in Apapa and other parts of Lagos had already received 300 million litres of fuel from eight vessels this week.

This development follows the confirmation by Ayo Cardoso, the South-West Regional Coordinator of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, who stated that in addition to the 240 million litres delivered to different depots on Monday, another approximately 85 million litres of petrol had been offloaded by Tuesday evening.

Despite the celebration of May Day by Nigerians on Wednesday, long queues persisted at petrol stations, with roads in Ogun, Lagos, and other areas appearing deserted as vehicles lined up for fuel purchases. Some drivers mentioned that they had parked their vehicles temporarily due to the fuel unavailability.

Moreover, the limited filling stations with available fuel were reported to be selling at what many considered to be excessively high prices.
