Peoples Democratic Party: Ekiti Workers Commemorate May Day Amidst Challenges

In Ekiti State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has pointed fingers at the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the economic difficulties faced by workers in Ekiti and across Nigeria.

According to the opposition party, as communicated by its State Publicity Secretary, Raphael Adeyanju, in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, Ekiti State workers observed this year’s Workers Day in a state of dismay due to the alleged failures of the ruling party at both the state and national levels.

Workers’ Day, a day intended to honor workers globally, did not bring about any celebrations in Ekiti State as stated by the PDP, asserting that the government’s treatment is not worker-friendly.

Highlighting the dire situation of civil servants and retirees, the PDP criticized the meager payments made to them, emphasizing the inadequacy of such amounts in the current harsh economic climate.

Addressing the prevalent fuel scarcity and the soaring cost of living in the state, the PDP spokesperson denounced the unbearable living conditions.

He further pointed out, “The current conditions in Ekiti State have escalated to a critical point. The exorbitant prices of petrol, coupled with skyrocketing transportation costs and dismal road conditions, have plunged our citizens into poverty and increased insecurity.”

Criticizing Governor Biodun Oyebanji for misplaced priorities, the opposition party argued that while the populace grapples with survival due to what they perceive as the federal government’s harsh policies, the governor seems more focused on projects that offer minimal benefits to the people of Ekiti.

The PDP called attention to the governor’s expanding cabinet, which they predicted would result in unnecessary expenditure, cautioning against further appointments for political gain.

Concluding, the party accused the Ekiti State government of potentially shifting blame onto the APC-controlled Federal government, citing a pattern of blame-shifting and excuse-making by the ruling party.

Since the advent of the APC government in Nigeria, the ordinary citizens, according to the PDP, have seen no relief. Excuses have seemingly overshadowed tangible progress, with blame being shifted between party members.
