The FA Cup Semi-Final Chances of Man City at Risk Due to Haaland’s Injury

Manchester City’s head coach, Pep Guardiola, has shared concerns about Erling Haaland’s availability for the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea at Wembley this Saturday.

Haaland was substituted prior to extra time in City’s recent Champions League quarter-final match against Real Madrid. Guardiola mentioned that the Norwegian striker requested to be replaced, but the reason was not disclosed.

Confirming Haaland’s injury sustained during the game against Real, Guardiola hinted at doubts regarding the leading scorer’s fitness for the upcoming FA Cup fixture.

“Following a rigorous game with high intensity from both sides, Erling felt a muscular issue which led to his substitution. The medical team reported minor discomfort, and his recovery progress will be monitored closely,” Guardiola informed reporters on Friday.

While Haaland’s situation remains uncertain, City’s midfielder Kevin De Bruyne is expected to play against Chelsea despite being substituted for fatigue during the Real match’s extra time.

Considering City’s demanding schedule, Guardiola acknowledged the natural fatigue setting in among players at this point in the season.

“With the frequency of matches and limited recovery time, along with high-intensity gameplay, it’s expected for fatigue to be present. Our players are human, not machines, and accustomed to these conditions,” Guardiola explained.

Manchester City’s dream of achieving a Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup treble again this season was shattered by the heartbreaking loss to Real in the quarter-finals.

Despite this setback, the team is still in contention for a domestic double, and Guardiola is focused on motivating the squad to bounce back following the European disappointment.

“We have no choice but to move forward. Dwelling on self-pity is not an option. In football, defeats happen, and we need to accept them. We gave our all, but it wasn’t sufficient. It’s a tough night when your best isn’t enough. Congratulations to Real, and now our focus shifts to the FA Cup,” Guardiola expressed.
