The Empowerment of Female Farmers in the South-West with N60m by President’s Wife

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of the President, emphasized the Federal Government’s dedication to empowering women for sustainable development and food security during an event on Tuesday.

She distributed cheques of N10m to each of the six South-West states – Ogun, Lagos, Osun, Oyo, Ondo, and Ekiti – to be given to 120 selected women farmers across these regions.

This announcement was made at the launch of the Renewed Hope Initiative Women Agricultural Support Programme for the South-West, alongside the commencement of the 2024 planting season in Ogun State, held at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Kuto, Abeokuta.

Mrs. Tinubu also revealed a cash grant of N100,000 each for 100 individuals with disabilities in Ogun State, aiming to improve their quality of life.

She mentioned that the programme was simultaneously launched in Plateau State for the North-Central region, Borno State for the North-East, and Kebbi State for the North-West geopolitical zones.

She expressed, “President Bola Tinubu’s administration acknowledges the crucial role of agriculture in sustainable development and food security. Thus, the Renewed Hope Initiative’s support for women farmers nationwide aligns with the broader goal of strengthening the agricultural sector.”

“Today, we are providing N500,000 each to 20 women per state in the South-West. Therefore, draft cheques of N10m per state will be handed to the First Ladies, who coordinate this initiative in each South-West state, for distribution to the beneficiaries.”

She encouraged the women farmers to expand their farming businesses, enhance their contribution to national and local food production, and inspire other aspiring women in the country.

In his remarks, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, praised Senator Tinubu for her exemplary initiative, highlighting his government’s support for women empowerment through initiatives like the ‘Okowo Dapo’ scheme, benefiting over 50,000 women with N1.5bn.
