The EFCC in Uyo detains 21 suspected fraudsters


In Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, twenty-one individuals suspected of engaging in online fraud have been apprehended.

A statement released on Friday by the Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) confirmed the arrests.

The EFCC disclosed that the cybercrime suspects were captured at various locations in Akwa Ibom State.

According to the agency, five suspects were taken into custody at the ‘Laundering Lounge’ situated in Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo, on Monday, May 6, 2024. Additionally, sixteen others were arrested on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, on Church Road, off Calabar Itu Road, Uyo.

Among the seized items were two luxury cars, nine laptops, 28 smartphones, and two wristwatches.

Once the investigations are finalized, the Commission has informed that the suspects will be brought before the court.
