The Destruction of 28,959kg of Cannabis in Edo and Ekiti Forests by NDLEA

According to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, a total of 10,534.78 kilograms of cannabis, also known as Marijuana, was destroyed from a 4.213912-hectare farmland in Edo.

In a statement made by NDLEA spokesperson, Mr. Femi Babafemi, it was disclosed that the farm was situated in the Uhen forest in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State.

During the raid on Wednesday, June 12, four suspects were apprehended by the agency’s operatives in the forest. The suspects were identified as Frank Ishoku, 38; Clifford Ossai, 49; Vanger Timothy, 30; and John Oluwaseyi, 30. Additionally, 16kg of processed cannabis was seized for prosecution purposes.

Babafemi further mentioned that the agency’s personnel destroyed 18,425kg of the same psychoactive substance on a 7.37-hectare farmland.

Furthermore, he stated that officers from other security agencies assisted in the NDLEA’s operations within the dense forest of Ise Ekiti on Friday.

“In a separate operation in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, two suspects identified as Muhammad Abba, 33, and Samson Ehizogie, 42, were caught with 3,550 bottles of “Akuskura”.

“This substance is a new blend of psychotropic substances seized by the operatives during a raid on Friday, June 14, at Garki Area 10 and Dutse Suokale, both located in the FCT.”

Updating on other incidents, Babafemi mentioned the arrest of Emmanuel Ogechi, 24, with 11,200 pills of tramadol on Wednesday, June 12, along the Otukpo-Enugu road by NDLEA operatives in Benue.

Another suspect, Anayo Onwe, 40, was found with 62.4kg of cannabis sativa at Nteje, and the agency’s operatives confiscated 1kg of methamphetamine from a fleeing suspect in Oraifite, Anambra.

“In Kwara State, another arrest was made as Muhammed Musa, 24, was apprehended with 33kg of cannabis at Bode-Saadu, Jebba, while Shokuro Adeola, 59, was nabbed with 11.5kg of the same substance along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Oyo State.”
