The crackdown on Uzo-Uwani assailants leads to numerous arrests during Gov. Mbah’s operation

Efforts to eliminate criminal activities in Uzo Uwani local government area and bolster the safety of the people have been heightened by Enugu State’s governor, Dr. Peter Mbah. The recent coordinated onslaught against assailants and criminal elements resulted in the arrest of many suspects found with dangerous weapons in the forests of the area.

To deter self-help measures by certain community members, the governor issued a stern warning. He emphasized that individuals or groups encouraging self-help actions would face legal consequences, as his administration strictly opposes vigilante justice, deeming it unacceptable and unlawful.

During an unexpected visit to Adani and Igga communities in Uzo Uwani LGA, Governor Mbah called for peace among the communities involved in reprisal attacks over land disputes. He announced that his administration had provided scholarships and job opportunities for the families of slain police officers and Neighbourhood Watch operatives who lost their lives in a recent ambush.

Highlighting the paramount importance of safeguarding lives and property, Governor Mbah reiterated the ongoing joint operations by security forces, including the police, DSS, military, and Neighbourhood Watch groups, to rid the area of criminal elements. He vowed to apprehend all those involved in criminal activities and ensure they face the full consequences of the law.

Governor Mbah stressed the need for communities to avoid taking matters into their own hands and instead resolve grievances through official channels. He encouraged cooperation with security forces to maintain safety and prevent further destruction of farmlands.

The state government’s deployment of security intelligence aims to enable farmers to work on their lands without fear of harassment or intrusion. Governor Mbah urged the public to support security efforts by providing valuable information to aid in capturing criminals infiltrating the communities.

Expressing satisfaction with the increased security presence in the area, the representative of Adani community conveyed gratitude for the governor’s visit. He assured continued collaboration with security agencies to ensure prompt responses and utilize provided job opportunities and scholarships for the affected families.

On the other hand, the spokesperson for Igga community accused Adani of harboring herdsmen and facilitating security threats by engaging unauthorized personnel. He claimed that the recent hostilities stemmed from Adani’s unauthorized presence in the farm settlement, leading to retaliatory actions.
