The Crackdown by NAFDAC on Substandard Bakeries and Water Factories in Rivers

Three substandard bakeries and a sachet water factory in Port Harcourt have been shut down by the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, also known as NAFDAC.

According to a statement released by Cyril Monye, the Public Relations Officer for the South South Zone, these bakeries were operating in makeshift wooden structures, manufacturing products in unhygienic conditions.

Situated in Rumuparali and Mgbuoba within the Obio/Akpor local government area of the state, the facilities were found to be operating without proper registration and failing to comply with safety regulations as outlined by NAFDAC.

The NAFDAC Coordinator for Rivers State, Emmanuel Onogwu, spearheaded the operation, which was made successful thanks to a tip-off from concerned citizens and thorough investigations conducted by the agency’s enforcement unit.

Another sachet water factory along the Mgbuoba-Choba Road in Obio/Akpor LGA was also closed down by the regulatory agency for failing to meet standard best practices.

A portion of the statement released by NAFDAC stated, “The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shot down three substandard and unregistered bakeries and a sachet water factory in Port Harcourt metropolis.

“A sachet water factory along Mgboba-Choba road was also shut down for producing in a facility different from the one registered by NAFDAC and also not conforming to standard best practices.

“The State Coordinator expressed concern over the activities of unscrupulous producers of NAFDAC-regulated products who engage in illegal practices without regard for established rules and guidelines, reaffirming the agency’s dedication to fulfilling its mission of safeguarding public health.

“Pharm Onogwu urged the general public to provide NAFDAC with any relevant information that could facilitate the apprehension and crackdown on unregistered producers.”
