Seeing flags of other countries around the world on the streets is a common practice in many cities. It is not surprising, for example, to see an Italian flag in Spain or vice versa, in public or private buildings.
On the other hand, this simple and common custom could disappear in a European country located in the north of the continent. In this way, starting next year In Denmark only its flag can be raised. This measure has been decreed by the majority of the Danish Parliament after approving a law that includes it.
This law not only prohibits the use of the Spanish flag, but it is a decision that vetoes the raising of most foreign flags on the masts.
According to ‘The Local’, a Danish media outlet, Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard explained that “the Danish flag is the most important national symbol” of Denmark. Therefore, “it is a symbol that unites the Danes as a people and should have a very special status in Denmark.”
