The commencement of cashless toll-payment on Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge by Lagos State

Starting as previously announced, the Lagos State Government has initiated the cashless policy for toll payments at Lekki/ Ikoyi Link bridge toll-plaza.

Last year, the State Government declared its intention to implement cashless toll payments at the Lekki/ Ikoyi toll plaza from January 1st, 2020 due to significant traffic congestion often experienced when using cash payments.

Frederic 0ladeinde, the Commissioner for Transportation, and Yomi Omomuwasan, the Managing Director of Lekki Concession Company Limited (LCC), personally supervised the cashless toll payments at the toll plaza on January 2nd. They expressed that the new policy aims to reduce the length of traffic queues experienced during cash payments, thereby saving travel time and easing traffic movement along the corridor.

Oladeinde observed that the implementation of the new cashless toll payments has remarkably improved vehicular movement at the toll plaza compared to the previous situation. He emphasized the need to educate residents about the new system and ensure compliance due to its advantage in facilitating traffic flow.

He expressed disapproval towards some motorists attempting to undermine the new policy for their selfish gains, revealing that some had made photocopies of their payment vouchers for multiple uses. He warned that the state government would enforce the law on any motorist attempting to obstruct its efforts to enhance traffic movements through corrupt practices.
