In Kwara State, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) apprehended Prophet Olayinka Ajiboye, a 45-year-old, for allegedly sexually assaulting three minors.
Residents of Agah Village in the Ilorin South Local Government Area, all the minors fall within the 13–17 age range.
The suspect, known for targeting and exploiting minors, had been under the watch of the command due to numerous complaints about his criminal activities.
Following a tip-off on May 7, 2024, he was apprehended.
The command’s spokesperson, Ayoola Michael Shola, stated on Thursday, “Investigations revealed that the suspect, who is the General Overseer of Divine Land of Joy Prayer Ministry in Agah village, has sexually assaulted multiple church members as reported by the victims.”
“One victim, Joy Godfrey, bravely reported the incident at the command’s Gender Unit on April 3, 2024, recounting a harrowing experience where Prophet Olayinka Ajiboye took her to an unfamiliar house in Sango where he sexually assaulted her.
In addition, he coerced her to swear on the Bible and warned her not to disclose the incident under threat of severe consequences.”
“Another victim, whose identity is protected, disclosed that the suspect began assaulting her at the age of 16, impregnated her, and provided drugs for an abortion resulting in prolonged bleeding. She was threatened with death if she spoke out.”
“The third victim, also a church member, revealed that the suspect assaulted her at age 13, keeping her silent through consistent threats of harm.”
The spokesperson also mentioned that the suspect confessed, attributing his actions to the influence of evil.
Umar Mohammed, NSCDC State Commandant, expressed worry over the situation, instructing the Gender Unit’s head to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure the suspect faces diligent prosecution.
He urged the public to assist in combating Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and assured that offenders would face legal consequences.
