The call for SGF’s help amidst leadership crisis by NANS

A plea has been made by the National Association of Nigerian Students to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume. The plea demands the arrest and prosecution of the factional President of NANS, Pedro Obi, for allegedly impersonating NANS President, Lucky Emonefe.

In a show of solidarity, Emonefe led hundreds of students in a rally to the SGF’s office where he submitted the petition to Akume.

The petition was received on the SGF’s behalf by the Deputy Security Officer, Haliru Musa.

In an interview with NewsNow, Obi claimed victory in the election by stating, “I won with 212 votes against my opponents, Sunday, who had 49 votes, and Lucky Emonefe, who had about 64 votes.”

There has been a leadership crisis within the association with each faction asserting authority over the student body.

A video went viral on X, formerly Twitter, showing the factions engaging in a violent clash in the Federal Capital Territory resulting in severe injuries.

The factions are led by Obi from Delta State University and Emonefe from the College of Education, Warri, Delta State.

The FCT Police Command confirmed investigating the recent attacks and counterattacks between the NANS factional leaders in the territory.

Emonefe accused Obi, a PDP member and erstwhile Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Student Matters, of falsely parading himself as NANS President after losing the election at the NANS convention from November 27 to December 3, 2023.

Emonefe urged the government to direct security agencies to apprehend Obi to prevent students from taking matters into their own hands.
