The joint offensive of the United States and Israel against Iran has not come as a surprise. According to President Donald Trump, the objective was to end the Iranian regime, but experts point out that there are both political and geostrategic interests behind this action.
Some say that the US president has taken the excuse of the regime to make his moves. At least that’s how journalist Juan Gómez, author of ‘Atomic Veterans’, explains it in The rose of the winds. “What happened to suddenly cause this attack was an excuse,” he says.
An excuse to dust off the war
Gómez focuses on the demonstrations that took place in Iran for women’s rights and other civil rights in which “Iranian repression, according to sources, would have caused up to 25,000 civilian victims.” As he explains, this scenario “has given Donald Trump the excuse to bring out of the trenches that hidden war, that war with secret missions and a long etcetera that they had been developing for many decades.”
Risk of nuclear war on the rise
Be that as it may, after the attack on Iran one of the most worrying factors is the increased risk of nuclear war. According to the expert, former military personnel and former members of the United States Task Force and Intelligence confirm that there is “between a 40% and a 60% chance” that there will be a conflict “where nuclear weapons, at least, have something to say.”
Therefore the scenario is what it is: the attack on Iran has increased the risk of nuclear war and Gómez warns of this. “Unless there is a deal from the new Iranian regime, there is a clear threat that it could happen.”
The nuclear crisis is approaching Europe
In fact, we must not forget that France, Germany and the United Kingdom have recently threatened to attack Iranian missile launchers. “This seems to be bringing a conflict to other countries that is closer to us,” Gómez concludes, warning that the global board is moving towards a scenario where the destructive capacity of nuclear weapons gains weight.
