The Appreciation of Burna Boy and Nollywood by the Canadian Senate

Recently, the Canadian Senate had a discourse on Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Burna Boy and the renowned Nollywood industry.

In recognition of the growth and global reach of Nigerian music and films, the Senate of the North American country offered commendations.

During the discussion, Marcel Lebleu, the Director General of the West And Central African Bureau at Global Affairs Canada, specifically praised Burna Boy for his achievements as a touring artist.

Highlighting the accomplishments of the Grammy-winning artist, Lebleu applauded Burna Boy for his successive sold-out shows at the iconic Bell Centre in Montreal, where he became the first African musician to achieve this feat.

Lebleu mentioned, “Have you heard of Burna Boy? He is an Afrobeats artist. He recently performed in Montreal and sold out The Bell Centre twice, attracting about 35,000 attendees.

“He also had a show in Toronto. The significance of the cultural industry cannot be underestimated, exemplified by the impact of Nollywood.”

Senator Peter Boehm, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, chimed in by sharing his recent experience listening to Burna Boy.

Additionally, Boehm, a self-proclaimed Burna Boy enthusiast, confirmed his admiration for the artist through his verified X handle after a video of his comments went viral.

In his post, Boehm expressed, “As a tall individual, I continue to find great pleasure in listening to @burnaboy’s album ‘Twice as Tall’ (2020) on repeat.”
