Ten dead after a shooting at a Graz Institute, south of Austria

At least ten people -ocho students, an adult and the alleged aggressor- this Tuesday in a shooting in a secondary school in the Austrian city of Graz, as confirmed by the mayor, Elke Kahr.

The governor, who described the shooting of “terrible tragedy,” said many injured have been transferred to hospitals. Some media point out that there are at least 28 injured, four of them in critical condition. A Graz Police spokesman has indicated that the school has been evacuated and that the building is being registered to rule out other security risks.

The attack began around 10.00 in a center where students go from 14 years. And in principle, the thesis that the attacker acted alone is assumed.

The alleged aggressor had been a victim of bullying

According to the Kronen Zeitung newspaper, the alleged aggressor was a student of the center and had been a victim of bullying. That source points out that he shot in two classrooms. Different media indicate that A body was located in the toilets could be the attacker.

Students and teachers have been transferred to another location and a meeting point and information for students’ parents have been established. The area around the school is cordoned off and monitored by heavily armed police, and traffic has been diverted.

The Austrian president, Alexander Van der Bellen, has described the event as “an indescribable horror” and has added that “what happened in the Graz school deeply moves the country.” “They were young people who had a lifetime ahead and a teacher who accompanied them on their way. There is nothing that can relieve the pain of parents, grandparents, family and friends of the murdered,” he lamented.

“Austria is mourning. At the moment, we are together. We are together to assume this pain together. We are together for those who suffer. Today, and in the days come, our country will demonstrate that our force derives from our unit,” he said through a statement published in his account in the Bluesky social network.

Within ten days the tenth anniversary of a Graz shooting in which three people died.
