TCN Towers Vandalized Causing Power Outages in Three States

Residents in Gombe, Yola, and Jalingo are currently experiencing a power outage due to vandalism on TCN towers.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, confirmed the incident, revealing that four towers along the Jos-Gombe transmission line were destroyed by vandals.

In a statement on Monday, Ndidi Mbah, the general manager of Public Affairs at TCN, made the disclosure.

The vandalism occurred at approximately 3:32 pm on Monday.

As a result, the bulk power supply to Gombe, Yola, and Jalingo Substations has been disrupted, impacting electricity distribution in parts of Yola and Jos Electricity Distribution Companies’ franchise areas.

“Four towers along the Jos – Gombe 330kV transmission line were vandalized at about 3:32 pm today, 22nd April 2024,” stated TCN.

“Upon the line tripping, TCN attempted restoration but faced subsequent tripping, leading to the dispatch of TCN linesmen for fault detection and rectification.

During fault tracing, TCN’s engineering team found towers 288, 289, 290, and 291 vandalized with some tower parts missing and collapsed due to the incident.

“Currently, power supply to Gombe, Yola, and Jalingo Substations has been disrupted, affecting Yola and Jos Electricity Distribution Companies’ franchise areas.

“To minimize the impact on affected consumers, TCN is working on restoring power to Gombe through alternative transmission lines and areas such as Bauchi, Ashaka, Potiskum, Damaturu, and Billiri/Savannah.

“Efforts are underway to restore power to the affected regions and reconstruct the vandalized towers,” the TCN spokesperson assured.

Abuja previously faced a blackout in February due to similar vandalism of TCN towers.
