TCN Raises Concern Over Sand Excavators’ Activities Near Transmission Towers

On Monday, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) issued a warning against the illegal activities of sand excavators in close proximity to its transmission towers.

In an official statement posted on their website, TCN emphasized that the actions of sand excavators pose a significant threat to the integrity of their towers and overall operations.

During a routine inspection of the B1T and B2T Benin-Onitsha 330kV transmission lines, TCN’s patrol team discovered unauthorized excavations within the transmission line Right of Way.

The excavations near Umelu Community in Benin City have notably impacted the structural stability of Towers 15 and 16, as highlighted by TCN.

TCN expressed concern over the detrimental effects of such activities, citing that the erosion caused by sand excavators undermines the tower foundations and may ultimately result in tower collapse, leading to power disruptions.

The collapse of towers not only jeopardizes grid stability but also poses risks to lives and properties in the vicinity.
