Minister Withdraws Lawsuit Against Niger Speaker Over Marriage of 100 Orphan Girls
The decision has been made by the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy -Ohanenye, to withdraw the lawsuit she previously filed against the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, in response to his intention to facilitate the marriage of 100 orphans from his constituency.
Addressing the media, the minister stated that the Ministry, in conjunction with the Speaker of the Niger State Assembly and traditional leaders from the region, is currently conducting an investigation into the girls' ages to ensure compliance with the legal marriage age.
Focusing on empowering girls and those impacted by insecurity in the state is now the priority of the Ministry of Women Affairs.
