Two individuals brought before court by EFCC for alleged contract fraud in Enugu

At the Federal High Court in Enugu, Justice Mohammed Umar oversaw the arraignment of Onuaguluchi Chris and Izuchukwu David by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Enugu Zonal Command. The defendants face a five-count charge related to conspiracy, retention of proceeds of crime, and obtaining by false pretence totaling N382,336,955. They are accused of deceiving Mackombo Omoila, the Managing Director/CEO of Architekon Nigeria Limited, into believing in a non-existent World Health Organisation contract for building six Unity Houses for hospitals in six Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State. The Ebonyi State House of Assembly has given the green light for the allocation of more than 500 million naira to facilitate the smooth running of local government elections within the state. Set to take place on July 20, 2024, by the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission, EBSIEC, the council election has been scheduled in advance. Clearing a total of 2,099 retirees' gratuities spanning from 1996 to 2023, the Ebonyi State Government has successfully settled outstanding payments. In a statement released to the press on Sunday, Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Chikadibia Okpor, announced the completion of this task in Abakiliki. The final batch (Phase 11) of 256 retirees from the years 1996 to 2021 received their full gratuity payments, totaling N394,907,784.91, by Thursday, May 9, 2024.
