Tackling Governor Ododo’s Actions in Assisting Yahaya Bello Evade Arrest

Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State has come under scrutiny from the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, for impeding the arrest of his predecessor, Yahaya Bello, by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Fagbemi expressed his concern over Ododo’s actions in obstructing EFCC’s efforts to apprehend Bello, deeming it “insufferably disquieting.”

The incident unfolded when EFCC operatives raided Bello’s residence in Abuja on Wednesday, as part of an ongoing fraud investigation.

Reports indicated that Bello was covertly aided in escaping arrest by Ododo.

In response, Fagbemi emphasized the importance of allowing EFCC to carry out its lawful duties without interference.

Issuing a personally signed statement, the AGF remarked, “A situation where public officials, who themselves enjoy protection by law enforcement agencies, engage in obstructing the commendable efforts of EFCC to execute its duties is deeply concerning.”

He added, “Avoiding legal accountability does not resolve underlying issues but rather exacerbates them.”

Fagbemi reiterated his commitment to upholding the rule of law, asserting that while he stands for safeguarding the rights of all Nigerians, he also believes in enabling State institutions to function effectively and efficiently.
