In Zamfara State, two extremists were neutralized by the troops of 1 Brigade and Sector 1 Joint Task Force (North West) Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) under Operation Sahel Sanity II.
A statement released by Lt Suleiman Omale of OPHD on Saturday revealed that “On the 16th of August 2024, the bandits were neutralized by the troops during a fierce encounter in the Unguwar Sarkin Musulmi area of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.”
The gallant troops responded promptly to reports of Violent Extremist activities in the area based on credible intelligence. Upon their arrival, they engaged the extremists in a serious gun battle, effectively eliminating two of them.
During the encounter, the remaining bandits were compelled to retreat in disarray.
Lt. Omale mentioned that a mop-up operation was carried out by the troops, leading to the recovery of an operational motorcycle that belonged to one of the Violent Extremists.
The area has now been secured, with the troops of Sector 1 Joint Task Force (North West) Operation Hadarin Daji maintaining a strong presence and conducting confidence-building patrols to ensure the safety of the local community.
