Strong Criticism from Pro-Wike Lawmakers Toward Fubara in the Midst of Rivers Assembly crisis

Recently, Governor Siminalayi Fubara made a statement calling the Martins Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly “non-existent,” which was strongly condemned by the lawmakers.

During Wednesday’s plenary session, the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Major Jack, raised concerns over Governor Fubara’s remarks, labeling them as “unguarded” and a direct insult to Nigeria.

Additionally, the pro-Wike lawmakers united the Rivers State Local Government Law No. 5 of 2018, the Rivers State Local Government (Amendment) Law of 2023, and the Rivers State Local Government (Amendment) Law No. 4 of 2024 to create a comprehensive new Local Government Law.

This newly amalgamated law addresses the establishment, structure, composition, finance, and functions of the local government councils within the state, along with other related matters.

In a statement released to the press, Amaewhule highlighted that the objective of the bill is to consolidate all existing local government laws in the state into a single unified legislation.
