Strategies to Resolve Ekiti and Osun’s Boundary Tussles

To strengthen the relationship between the southwestern states, Ekiti and Osun have devised strategies to address border disputes in some border towns.

The peace agreement was reached during a meeting between a delegation led by Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Monisade Afuye, and Osun’s Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, in Osogbo.

The discussion involved key officials such as the Permanent Secretary, Chairman of the Boundary Commission Technical Committee, Surveyor General, and Deputy Chief of Staff from Ekiti.

Prior to the meeting, the deputy governors held a private discussion to address the outstanding issues and formulate solutions to the boundary conflicts.

In her statement, Mrs. Afuye emphasized Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s commitment to fostering peaceful relationships with neighboring states.

She announced that both states had agreed to let government officials and boundary delineation experts handle the disputes professionally to bring peace to the affected towns.

Addressing the stakeholders, Mrs. Afuye expressed the importance of maintaining harmony among the southwestern states and resolving disputes amicably.

On his part, Osun’s Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, echoed the sentiment of peace and cooperation, affirming the state’s dedication to resolving boundary issues peacefully.

He emphasized the need for political will to counter any individuals benefiting from the conflicts and pledged to implement the resolutions reached by the experts after evaluating the border towns.

Justice Kunle Adeigbe, a retired Jurist and Chairman of Osun State Boundary Commission, reiterated the importance of adopting a give-and-take approach to address the longstanding conflicts and prevent escalation into a full-blown war.

Surveyor Soladoye Abioye, the Surveyor General of Osun State, acknowledged the progress made in resolving internal matters and assured that experts from both governments would approach the issues impartially and diligently.
