In an official statement released by Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s press secretary, Abubakar Bawa, it was announced that 15 District Heads in Sokoto State have been dethroned. The reasons cited for their removal include allegations of insubordination, involvement in land racketeering, aiding insecurity, and misappropriation of public properties.

The affected District Heads include those from Unguwar Lalle, Yabo, Wamakko, Tulluwa, lllela, Dogon Daji, Kebbe, Alkammu, Giyawa, and others who were appointed towards the end of the tenure of former Governor Aminu Tambuwal.

The statement highlighted that the appointments of some of these District Heads were found to be irregularly done and were not accepted by their communities. District Heads like Marafan Tangaza, Sarkin Gabas Kalambaina, Bunun Gongono, Sarkin Kudun Yar Tsakkuwa, Sarkin Tambuwal, and Sarkin Yamman Torankavwa were among those listed for removal.

Additionally, cases involving District Heads of Isa, Kuchi, Kilgori, and Gagi are now under further investigation. Furthermore, Sarkin Yakin Binji has been reassigned to Bunkari, and the District Head of Sabon Birni will now serve in Gatawa.

Despite these removals, seven other District Heads have been retained by the government. Continuing the reshuffle, the district heads of Tsaki and Asare were also preserved in their positions, while Abdulkadir Mujeli, who was serving as Magajin Garin Sokoto, has been asked to return to his former role as Sarkin Rafin Gumbi district.

The decisions were based on recommendations from the Committee on the Review of Appointments of Traditional Rulers, Renaming of Tertiary Institutions, and the Dissolution of Governing Councils of State Parastatals established by the government of Sokoto State.
