Six Boko Haram Fighters Surrender to Multinational Joint Task Force in Lake Chad

Recent reports indicate that troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) operating in the Lake Chad region have successfully facilitated the surrender of six Boko Haram terrorists.

Official communication from Lt-Col. Abdullahi Abubakar, the Chief Military Public Information Officer, reveals that these militants relinquished their arms between the 17th and 27th of April 2024. Their decision to surrender came in response to the strategic offensives carried out by troops participating in Operation Lake Sanity 2, a collaborative effort between Cameroon and Nigeria in the Lake Chad Region.

Among the surrendering individuals is a 19-year-old Boko Haram member named Alhaji Ali, who voluntarily turned himself in to troops belonging to the 403 Amphibious Brigade (Baga) of Sector 3 in Monguno, Nigeria on the 17th of April 2024.

An in-depth military inquiry later unveiled that Alhaji Ali had been associated with the Buduma faction of the notorious terrorist group for a period of three years.

It was disclosed that Ali, originally from Masarram on Lake Chad Island and currently residing in Duguri, had actively engaged with the group until internal discontent led to his decision to surrender.

The MNJTF is now calling upon other Boko Haram insurgents who are currently hiding within the Lake Chad islands and nearby communities to abandon their hostilities and embrace peace.

Emphasizing their dedication to establishing enduring peace and stability within the Lake Chad Basin, the MNJTF is urging terrorists to emulate those who have already chosen the path of surrender.
