In a surprising revelation, Yemi Alade, the talented singer, has shared that she attributes her lack of award wins in Nigeria to her refusal to give in to sexual advances from industry insiders.
Throughout her career, the ‘Johnny’ hitmaker admitted that many entertainment bigwigs have propositioned her for sexual favors in exchange for promises of career advancement.
Despite the potential benefits, Alade has stood firm in her decision, stating that she would rather maintain her dignity and stay true to her values, even if it means missing out on certain opportunities.
According to a report by WithInNigeria, Alade expressed, “There was a time in the industry when everyone wanted to sleep with me. Today, men are the reason I don’t receive awards in Nigeria.”
She added, “I saw succumbing to these demands as a necessary evil to access certain platforms, secure deals, and even win awards. However, once I chose to reject such propositions, many doors closed automatically for me.”
