The Response of Pro-Fubara APC Members to Impeachment Calls in the Rivers Crisis

Contrary to the calls for the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, some members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State have voiced opposition.

Chief Tony Okocha, the APC state chairman, had on Tuesday instructed the Rivers State House of Assembly to immediately initiate proceedings for the impeachment of the governor.

This call came amidst the political turmoil in the state following the feud between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

The APC members, operating under the Solidarity and Development Forum, criticized the impeachment demand against Fubara as “reckless and irresponsible.”

They viewed it as a menace to the fundamental principles of the nation’s democracy.

The members, considered to be supportive of Fubara, believed that the resurfaced crisis was unnecessary, emphasizing that President Bola Tinubu had resolved the issue.

In a statement endorsed by its conveners, Comrade Kabir Matazu and Igwe Ude-Umanta, the group labeled the call an overt attempt to unsettle the government and sow disorder in the state.

“The President himself, through his sagacity, has urged all factions involved in the dispute to maintain the current state of affairs and strive for an amicable resolution,” the statement noted.

“Governor Fubara has embraced this directive and showcased his dedication to the ethos of inclusivity and effective governance that our esteemed president has championed since taking office.”

“It would be unjust and imprudent for any party member or individual to diverge from the same wavelength as our president.”

“The uninformed remarks of Chief Tony Okocha are distressing, as they not only disregard the president’s plea for peace but also endanger the solidity and advancement of our cherished party,” the statement concluded.
