Review Committee for NPTF Act Inaugurated by Minister

Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, the Minister of Police Affairs, has officially launched a 24-member committee led by Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry. The committee’s purpose is to assess the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) Act of 2019 and pinpoint areas in need of revision.

During the inauguration ceremony held in Abuja on Tuesday, Gaidam highlighted the significant impact of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund on the policing sector in Nigeria through various interventions.

The committee, as per a statement by the Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations at the ministry, Bolaji Kazeem, was inaugurated by the Permanent Secretary on behalf of the minister.

Gaidam emphasized the necessity for reviewing several aspects of the agency since its establishment, particularly concerning issues such as board formation, functions and management, contractual agreements, power limitations, and funding sources.

He urged the committee to thoroughly examine the Act, propose necessary changes, provide reasons for extending beyond the initial six-year period, outline funding mobilization strategies, and solicit input from the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant stakeholders.

The committee, consisting of members from the Ministry of Police Affairs, Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Nigeria Police Force, and Ministry of Justice, has been given a two-week deadline to present their report to the ministry’s management.
