Restaurant Burglary: Carpenter Gets 18-Month Jail Term

An incident at a restaurant has led to a 27-year-old carpenter, Oryiman Terkimbi, being sentenced to 18 months in prison by the Makurdi Magistrates’ Court.

Residing behind Bandico Hotel in Wadata area of Makurdi, the convict pleaded guilty to the burglary.

Following his plea, Magistrate Mrs. Eunice Ndaiyo handed down the sentence.

Reporting on the case, Prosecutor Insp. Inedu Friday stated that the offense was reported on July 17 by a resident named Mercy Dominic, living close to Dele Bookshop in Wadata.

The prosecutor detailed that the convict unlawfully entered Dominic’s restaurant on Naka Road in Benue and stole various items.

Among the stolen goods were a 5kg bag of Semovita worth N7,000, 13 bottles of red oil valued at N13,000, a N300 Fanta bottle, and five aluminum cooking pot covers valued at N17,000.

“Following a police investigation, the defendant was apprehended and admitted to the crime,” said the prosecutor.

Recovered from him were the pot covers, five bottles of red oil, and the bag of Semovita.

The prosecutor highlighted that these actions violated Sections 355, 350, and 289 of the Benue State Penal Code, Law of 2004 as amended.
