Residents of Zamfara State Express Concerns about Transport Costs, Turn to Walking

The high cost of transportation in Zamfara State has become a major issue for residents.

According to reports from NewsNow, many individuals have opted to walk due to their inability to afford the expensive fares.

A resident of Gengeri MaiGemu in Tudunwada area of Gusau shared that he used to pay N100 for motorcycle rides, but now the fare has risen to N300.

Furthermore, the cost of traveling from Gusau to Sokoto has surged from N4,000 to N6,500.

Some commercial motorcycle riders and drivers mentioned to NewsNow that they had to raise prices because of the high cost of fuel, which they purchase between N950 to N1000 per liter.

During NewsNow’s visit to filling stations in Gusau metropolis, it was observed that only a few were open for business, while the rest remained closed.

According to a station manager in Gusau, several fuel tankers were stranded at the NNPC Depot, waiting for fuel that was not available.

The increase in fuel prices has also had a ripple effect on the prices of food items in the market.
