Residential Unrest in Ovom and Eziama Due to Erosion-Damaged Roads in Abia

Over the weekend, the residents of Ovom Street and Eziama in Aba, Abia State, expressed their distress over the severe damage caused by gully erosion in their locality.

They are concerned about the serious threat that the erosion poses to their lives and properties, as it has already destroyed numerous buildings and valuable economic assets.

During a visit by the member of the House of Representatives representing Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency, Hon Alex Ikwechegh, the residents of Aba aired their grievances and urged the Abia State Government to intervene and rescue them from the disaster that has adversely affected their livelihoods.

Furthermore, a trader named Madam Eunice Nwanoru lamented that the road in the area, affected by gully erosion, has become perilous, emphasizing that urgent measures are needed to avert further destruction of homes.

She emphasized the need for relevant federal and state government agencies and ministries to intervene and reconstruct the road before the situation worsens.

In response to the situation, Ikwechegh expressed dissatisfaction with the deplorable condition of the road infrastructure in the area during his inspection tour. He assured the residents that he would address the issue in the National Assembly and initiate immediate palliative work to prevent further deterioration.
