Rescue Operation by LASTMA Saves Driver and Passengers Following Truck Overturn in Lagos


On Friday, operatives from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, carried out a successful rescue operation after a truck transporting food items overturned on its way to the Ojota area of Lagos.

The incident, which involved an unregistered Volvo truck, caused injuries to the driver and five passengers, including three women.

Upon receiving the distress call, LASTMA officials responded promptly to the scene and efficiently rescued all the victims.

Adebayo Taofiq, the agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, stated, “Our officers swiftly handled the situation, attributed to a brake failure of the truck while traveling at high speed.”

Zebra Bakare Akanbi from LASTMA Zone 11, Ojota/Fadeyi, verified that the injured individuals were rescued with the collaborative effort of other security personnel. They were then promptly handed over to the Lagos State Ambulance Services for necessary medical attention.

Hakeem Adeosun, the Director of Traffic Incidents, Event Monitoring, Enforcement, and Compliance at LASTMA, was present at the scene to coordinate the operation for clearing the accident site.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Oki, offered his condolences to the victims and advised all motorists, especially those driving heavy trucks, to ensure thorough safety checks before commencing journeys in order to prevent such unfortunate incidents.
