Request for Action: Farmer Calls on Government to Reinstate Displaced Villagers of Burdugau Community

A farmer named Sanusi Muhammad Burdugau from Katsina State is urging the State Government and Malumfashi Local Government Council to repatriate the displaced villagers of Burdugau back to their community so they can take part in farming during the upcoming rainy season.

Three months ago, a man and eleven married women were abducted from the community, with four being released after ransom payment while the others remain captive in the bandits’ hideout, as stated in a communication by Sanusi Muhammad Burdugau released to the press in Gusau, Zamfara State capital.

The statement emphasized that Malumfashi Local Government Area has been severely impacted by security challenges, being one of the most affected areas in the state.

Similar to Kebbi, Kaduna, Sokoto, and Zamfara States, Katsina State in the Northwest region is grappling with security issues caused by banditry and kidnapping, Burdugau pointed out.

Municipalities like Malumfashi, Bakori, Faskari, and Kankara are at the forefront of the escalating banditry issues, resulting in immense hardships and psychological distress for the local populace.

The prevailing situation has triggered significant setbacks socially and economically for the people in the affected local government areas.

Armed bandits are causing terror and financial losses, with the security forces seemingly struggling to contain the escalating crisis, allowing criminals to act with impunity.

The armed groups freely move around, brandishing AK-47 rifles, extorting money from the populace, and perpetrating violence in towns and villages.

Burdugau highlighted instances where vigilante groups, known as Yansakai, have resorted to extrajudicial acts, resulting in loss of life and property.

He recounted an attack on Burdugau village where armed bandits kidnapped individuals, including married women, and killed a prominent resident, Uban Sabga, prompting the evacuation of the villagers to ensure their safety.

The deployment of Yan’sakai members from Bakori local government area led to further atrocities, with innocent individuals falling victim to their brutal actions.

Burdugau deplored the lawlessness exhibited by the Yan’sakai members, who engaged in looting, arson, and other destructive activities, compelling the remaining residents to abandon their homes in fear for their lives.
