Relief items distribution to communal clash victims in Kogi

In response to the recent communal crisis in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State, relief materials are being distributed by the state government to assist the victims.

Following attacks by suspected herdsmen that resulted in the loss of 25 lives and destruction of several houses in two communities, Governor Ahmed Ododo instructed the state Emergency Management Agency, in collaboration with the local government administration supervised by Deputy Governor Comrade Joel Oyibo Salifu, to conduct a need assessment.

The agency has now begun the distribution of relief items to affected communities on behalf of the state government.

A statement released by Special Adviser Ismaila Isah on Thursday disclosed that Governor Ododo expressed satisfaction with the agency during his visit to console the affected people.

Governor Ododo emphasized the importance of providing temporary relief to the displaced individuals in Agojeju-Odo and other impacted communities while efforts are being made to address the recurrent communal crisis.

He assured continuous support from the state government to prevent further unrest and protect the citizens.

The governor praised the caretaker chairman of Omala Local Government Area, Hon. Mark Edibo, and the security agencies for their roles in restoring peace, urging them to focus on comforting the affected individuals.

Updates on the crisis investigation revealed that arrests have been made and the culprits are cooperating with security agencies to uncover the causes and masterminds of the conflict.
