Recent Arrest in Akwa Ibom: Man Pretending to Be Military Personnel Nabbed by Police

On Thursday, the police command in Akwa Ibom announced the apprehension of an individual suspected of being an ex-convict impersonating a military officer.

ASP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state, disclosed this information in a statement released in Uyo.

According to John, the suspect, identified as Eddiong Matthew, was apprehended by officers conducting crime prevention patrols on Wednesday.

Initial investigations indicated that the 35-year-old suspect had a criminal record.

Reports revealed that the individual had committed multiple crimes in the state by posing as a warrant officer in a military uniform.

The police spokesperson mentioned that upon his arrest, items such as a walkie-talkie, cell phones, a brown coverall dress, and an RCC ID card believed to be stolen were confiscated from him.

John stated that the suspect would face legal charges once the investigative process is completed.

He emphasized the determination of the Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, to combat crime in the state.

John urged the public to provide the police with credible information to assist in apprehending criminals.
