Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, has responded to the news that Xabi Alonso has chosen not to take over his position at the Premier League club.
There were strong speculations that Alonso would succeed Klopp at Anfield.
However, on Friday, the ex-Reds midfielder announced his commitment to remaining with Bayer Leverkusen.
Regarding Alonso’s decision to stay put this summer, Klopp has expressed his understanding.
In his words, “A young manager flourishing at a club where he’s excelling, I can empathize.
“I made a similar choice and have no regrets.
“Xabi is achieving remarkable success at Leverkusen. He is likely to maintain the team’s unity this year, which is not always the case.
“I comprehend his desire to pursue that path.”
