Reaction from David Raya on his error in Arsenal’s 3-2 victory against Spurs

Expressing his perspective, Arsenal’s goalkeeper David Raya has highlighted the importance of learning from his mistakes.

Instances of such errors were evident in Arsenal’s 3-2 triumph over Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday.

Arsenal surged to a 3-0 lead in the first half with an own-goal from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, alongside strikes by Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz.

However, Tottenham displayed a stronger presence after halftime and capitalized when Raya’s attempted lob inadvertently reached Cristian Romero at the edge of the box in the 64th minute.

Romero seized the opportunity, narrowing the score to 3-1. Son Heung-min later converted a penalty in the final minutes after Declan Rice fouled Ben Davies.

Despite the late pressure from their north London rivals, Mikel Arteta’s team managed to hold on to their lead until the end of the match.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Raya shared, “Mistakes are a crucial part of learning. They offer valuable lessons. Every individual in football makes mistakes.”

He added, “Despite that, when a goalkeeper commits an error, it often results in a goal, attracting more attention and discussion, unlike a forward missing a straightforward chance.”

“Mistakes are intrinsic to the game, and the key lies in deriving lessons from them,” Raya emphasized.
