Jigawa Governor Reinstates Suspended Commissioner for Ramadan Feeding

The reinstatement of Aminu Kanta, the suspended Commissioner for Commerce and Industries in Jigawa State, has been approved by the State Government.

During a briefing with journalists following the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Umar Namadi, Commissioner of Information, Youth, Sport, and Culture, Sagir Musa Ahmed, confirmed the decision.

Reports indicated that the Jigawa State governor had suspended the Commissioner for Commerce amid accusations of funds misappropriation related to the Ramadan feeding program in Babura Local Government. A committee was set up to investigate these claims.

In addressing the issue, Ahmed stated, “The council reviewed the committee’s findings, focusing on the deviations in the menu quantity for the Babura LGA feeding program compared to the council’s approval. The committee attributed the problem in Babura to the contractor’s erroneous judgment.”

He elaborated that the committee discovered the primary food supplier was allocating funds per ward instead of per center, leading to a 50% reduction in the daily feeding cost per center.

The lack of adequate supervision by the suspended commissioner was noted as a factor that allowed the problem to go unnoticed initially.

Ahmed mentioned that the excess 50% of the unspent funds by the vendor had been recovered and returned to the state’s treasury.

Consequently, the council recommended the lifting of the suspension on the commissioner, with council members unanimously approving his reinstatement to his position.
