PSC Authorizes Termination Of 3 Police Officers


The Police Service Commission (PSC) has authorized the termination of three senior Police officers due to cases of misconduct and misuse of power.

 

In addition, the commission demoted nine other officers, including a Commissioner of Police, during a plenary meeting overseen by Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi, a retired Justice of the Supreme Court and honorable Commissioner representing the Judiciary in the commission, who stood in for the commission’s chairman, Dr. Solomon Arase, a retired inspector-general of police.

 

According to the PSC spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, while Dr. Arase was absent, he welcomed members during the plenary via zoom and praised them for diligently addressing disciplinary issues.

 

Furthermore, the commission also approved the mandatory retirement of an Assistant Commissioner and instructed a refund of all wrongly paid entitlements.

 

It approved a posthumous promotion of the late Inspector Ifeanyi Oroke to the next rank of ASP II for acts of bravery and reinstated one dismissed Inspector, Augustina Oko, with effect from the date of dismissal.

 

The commission also imposed severe reprimands on 16 officers, reprimands on another 18, and issued warning letters to two other officers.

 

Prior to this, the commission approved the appeal for the adjustment of the promotion date to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police for ACP Woke Iheanyi Kingsley and the reinstatement of CSP Anaele Samuel Onuoha in compliance with a Court judgment.

 

Ani added that the 21st plenary meeting of the commission will reconvene on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.
