Probe into Electricity Tariff Hike Underway in Nigerian Senate

An investigation regarding the electricity tariff hike in Nigeria has been initiated by the Senate Committee on Power.

This investigative hearing is currently being held at the National Assembly in Abuja.

The Senate has made it clear that individuals or entities contributing to the financial strain and difficulties faced by Nigerians will face repercussions.

During Monday’s investigative hearing, Senator Eyinnaya Ababribe, the committee’s chairman, highlighted that the inquiry stemmed from two motions raised during sessions on July 25, 2023, and February 21, 2024.

The Senate’s resolutions mandated the Committee on Power to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Power, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, and other relevant stakeholders.
