President Tinubu proclaims April 7 as National Police Day

President Bola Tinubu has declared that April 7 will now be observed as National Police Day in Nigeria. This announcement was made during the inaugural Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations ceremony held at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. Vice President Kashim Shettima represented President Tinubu at the event.

Emphasizing the importance of providing training and capacity-building opportunities for the men and women of the police force, Tinubu highlighted the necessity of equipping them with the necessary skills for modern policing.

He also revealed that the Federal Government has sanctioned the designation of the first week of April as police week, with April 7 designated as National Police Day.

“Esteemed guests, as part of our commitment to recognizing the invaluable service of the Police Force in our nation, we have endorsed the celebration of the first week of April as Police Week.

“Furthermore, the 7th of April, the concluding day of this week, is now officially designated as National Police Day in Nigeria.

“I would like to highlight that we do not view you merely as the protectors of the nation, nor do we see you as automatons.

“Our purpose here is to humanize you, to acknowledge the essential role you play not just as law enforcers but as fellow citizens.

“In a period where Nigeria’s security apparatus is facing unprecedented challenges, the citizens have endured security threats and assaults on their lives and livelihoods due to the unwavering dedication of the police force.

“Your remarkable courage epitomizes the highest level of patriotism that unites us and inspires hope that brighter days are on the horizon.”
