President Buhari orders Customs to release seized bags of rice for distribution all over the country

President Buhari has instructed the Nigeria Customs Service NCS to release bags of rice seized from smugglers for immediate distribution. This decision is part of the government’s efforts to alleviate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

The Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, made this announcement during a press briefing in Abuja on Monday.

In her statement, she mentioned, “The President has authorized the release of grains from the Stategic Grains Reserves. The Nigeria Customs Service is in possession of a significant amount of seized rice, including a hundred and fifty trucks, which will now be handed over to the humanitarian ministry for distribution to various states across the country.”
